Reference

The technical reference — architecture, the RevuApi contract and its routes, the wire types and error codes, the fixture scenario map, and the design system.

The reference section is the ground truth for how revu is built: the contract the UI talks to, the daemon that serves it, the shapes on the wire, and the design tokens that render it. Every page here is grounded in the code, not in a description of it — the RevuApi interface, the shared route table, and the wire types are the source of truth, and this section documents them as they are.

If you are getting revu running, start with run modes and the quickstart. If you are reasoning about why it is shaped this way, read the concepts. This section is for the mechanics.

What's here

PageCovers
ArchitectureThe one-contract layering — RevuApi → revud → a TokenSource/WriteDecorator pair over one shared core — and mock-as-oracle conformance.
API & routesThe RevuApi methods and the HTTP route table they map onto, one route per method.
Types & errorsThe snapshot, draft, and thread wire types, and the ApiErrorCode set — including the non-error semantics (head_moved as a value, getSnapshot null, partial snapshots).
Scenario mapThe fixture pull requests, and the one hard case each makes concrete.
DesignThe dark-only, dense, keyboard-first design system — the diff palette, draft violet, stale gold, and the snapshot seal.

The one contract, stated once

Everything in this section orbits a single interface. The React app reads and writes through exactly one boundary — RevuApi. In the browser that boundary binds an in-process mock; over HTTP it reaches revud, a single Bun daemon that serves the built app and the API on one loopback port. A run mode is a pair of small strategies plugged in around one shared core; it never forks the core.

Three run modes exist, and this section describes all three honestly:

  • Mock — in-browser fixtures, forced with ?mock=1. Shipped. The permanent demo and the semantics oracle.
  • Direct — bun run revud --direct (or REVU_MODE=direct). Shipped. Talks to real GitHub authenticated as the gh user, with drafts and snapshots in a local SQLite store.
  • Broker — the shared-identity deployment for teams in disposable workspaces. Reserved: designed and documented, not a shipped boot option. Only mock and direct modes boot today.
